CINCINNATI — Vice President JD Vance came home to Ohio on Friday, casting an early ballot for the Nov. 3 midterm election at the Hamilton County Board of Elections in Norwood before headlining a Republican rally at the Allen County Regional Airport in Lima. The Cincinnati native traveled with his wife Usha Vance, their three children and the family dog Atlas, along with U.S. Sen. Bernie Moreno.
In a roughly 30-minute speech in Lima, Vance urged Ohio Republicans to turn out for Sen. Jon Husted, who is in a closely watched race against Democrat Sherrod Brown for Vance’s former Senate seat, and for GOP gubernatorial nominee Vivek Ramaswamy, who faces Democrat Amy Acton. “Midterm elections are tough. They always are,” Husted said earlier this week. Vance praised Ramaswamy’s business background and credited Husted with legislation barring investors from buying up homes and a budget package cutting taxes on tips and overtime.
The back-to-back Ohio visits by Vance and President Donald Trump — who rallied near Dayton earlier this week and is scheduled to appear in Youngstown on Oct. 12 — show how central Ohio has become to Republican efforts to hold Congress amid voter frustration over the cost of living and gas prices.
After voting, Vance said he would not watch the Pentagon’s planned Dec. 3 livestreamed execution of Fort Hood shooter Nidal Hasan, a stance in line with Catholic leaders — including Pope Leo XI — who have called for an end to capital punishment in the United States.
