Toledo gets a national showcase Saturday when San Diego State visits the Glass Bowl at noon on CBS Sports Network, with the Rockets’ College Football Playoff hopes hanging in the balance.
Toledo (2-1) opened with a loss at Michigan State and survived a shootout thriller over Temple. The Rockets have a real path to the playoff as the top Group of Six conference champion — but that path likely closes with a home loss to the Aztecs.
San Diego State (1-2) arrived with high expectations as a new Pac-12 program but has stumbled, getting run over by UCLA and dropping a frustrating loss to James Madison. The Aztecs need a win in a hurry to salvage their season.
It is just the second meeting between the programs. San Diego State won the first, 17-14 in 2022, and took last year’s road game against a MAC opponent in a 6-3 defensive struggle at Northern Illinois.
Toledo opens MAC play next week at Ball State, while the Aztecs begin their new Pac-12 slate at home against Texas State. For the Rockets, though, Saturday is about something bigger: proving a MAC contender belongs in the December conversation.
