Seven-Hour Standoff in Findlay Ends with Arrest in Domestic Violence Case
A seven-hour police standoff in Findlay ended early Saturday morning with the arrest of a 52-year-old man accused of pointing a handgun at officers responding to a domestic violence call, authorities said.

Officers with the Findlay Police Department were dispatched at about 6:02 p.m. Friday to 150 Laquineo Street on a report of domestic violence involving 52-year-old Michael Thompson and his partner, according to a police news release. Thompson is alleged to have assaulted his partner before officers arrived, police said. When officers attempted to speak with Thompson about the incident, he produced a handgun and pointed it at them, prompting officers to retreat to safety along with the victim and establish a perimeter around the home, police said.

The incident was treated as a criminal barricade, and the department’s Crisis Management Team was activated as efforts began to persuade Thompson to surrender, according to police. Investigators obtained a search warrant for the residence as the standoff stretched over roughly seven hours, during which Thompson refused to communicate, cooperate, or surrender despite repeated attempts at contact, authorities said.

At about 1 a.m. Saturday, a tactical element of the Crisis Management Team, accompanied by Findlay Police K9 Deke, entered the home and forcefully took Thompson into custody, police said. Thompson was transported to Blanchard Valley Hospital for treatment of minor injuries and later booked into the Hancock County Justice Center, according to officials.

Police said the victim did not suffer any serious injuries from the domestic incident. Thompson is being held on charges of first-degree misdemeanor domestic violence under Ohio Revised Code 2919.25(A) and third-degree felony intimidation of a public servant under Ohio Revised Code 2921.03, stemming from the alleged assault and the act of pointing a firearm at responding officers, authorities said.
