TOLEDO — The Lucas County Courthouse in downtown Toledo reopened Wednesday, a day after a water system problem forced the building to close.

The courthouse was closed Tuesday while crews made a water system repair. Local reports described the underlying problem as a water main break. Court operations were paused for the day, and people with business before the court were directed to contact the court directly for scheduling updates on hearings and filings.

The building reopened Wednesday, but the return comes with a caution: a boil advisory applies to the courthouse’s water. Anyone working in or visiting the building should follow the advisory guidance for drinking water until officials say it has been lifted.

A one-day closure at the county’s main courthouse ripples quickly. The building houses the Lucas County Court of Common Pleas and related offices, so a shutdown day can mean rescheduled hearings, delayed filings and jurors and witnesses sent home to wait for new dates.

Anyone whose hearing, filing deadline or appointment fell on the closed Tuesday should check with the court or their attorney for the rescheduled date rather than assuming the original time still holds. The courthouse is at 700 Adams Street in downtown Toledo.
