In East Toledo, Helping Hands of St. Louis hosted its annual Christmas dinner, welcoming anyone in need for a free hot meal and fellowship. Volunteers served turkey dinners, desserts, and warm drinks, while local musicians provided carols in the dining hall.
“This is what the season is all about—coming together and caring for one another,” said Mary Williams, the organization’s program coordinator. She noted that attendance has grown in recent years, reflecting both the need for community support and the generosity of volunteers.
Meanwhile, in Lima, the city’s police department upheld a cherished local tradition: escorting Santa Claus to area hospitals to deliver gifts and visit children spending the holiday in medical care. Officers accompanied Santa in patrol cars with lights flashing, greeting families and hospital staff along the way.
Lt. Eric Johnson said the annual event reminds officers why community connections matter. “Seeing the smiles when Santa walks in makes every bit of planning worth it,” he said.
Across the region, these small but heartfelt acts carried a common message — that the holidays are brighter when people come together to help one another.
