COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol (OSHP) is taking a new approach to connect with the next generation of troopers. The agency launched a “text-to-join” feature Monday, allowing potential recruits to begin the application process directly from their phones.
By texting “joinOSHP” to 614-654-OSHP, prospective applicants will be linked with a recruiter who can answer questions and guide them through the hiring process.
OSHP officials say the initiative aims to meet younger, tech-savvy candidates where they are — on their mobile devices — and simplify the first step toward a law enforcement career.
“This modernized approach helps us engage with people more efficiently and ensures no one misses the opportunity to serve because of outdated application barriers,” an OSHP spokesperson said.
The move follows recent efforts by law enforcement agencies nationwide to update recruitment strategies amid staffing shortages and changing workforce expectations. The Highway Patrol hopes expanding digital access will attract more diverse candidates and make it easier to learn about training, benefits, and advancement within the ranks.
