TOLEDO — Motorists heading downtown Saturday morning should plan alternate routes. Several downtown Toledo streets will close Saturday morning for the ProMedica Stroke Network’s Be Fast 5K Run and one-mile walk, the Toledo Department of Transportation announced.
Closures include Summit Street and the MLK Bridge, which will be blocked for the race route. The event begins Saturday morning and is expected to wrap up before midday, though drivers should expect delays around the downtown riverfront area.
The Be Fast 5K raises awareness for stroke prevention and the warning signs of stroke, with proceeds supporting the ProMedica Stroke Network’s education programs. Organizers expect a strong turnout of runners and walkers for the charity event.
Saturday is a busy day for street events in Toledo — the University of Toledo’s Homecoming Parade will also block parts of Bancroft Street and several other streets near the university’s campus on Saturday morning. City officials advise checking posted detour signs and allowing extra travel time.
