Nearly 14 years after a double homicide on Columbus’ East Side, Columbus police say a man traveled from Los Angeles to police headquarters and admitted his role in one of the killings.

According to a criminal complaint, 36-year-old Shamieke Pugh arrived at Columbus police headquarters on Sept. 29 and asked to speak with detectives about a homicide. During a meeting Sept. 30 with the department’s Major Case Investigations Team, Pugh allegedly admitted he was part of a group that planned to rob two men — 32-year-old Heriberto Galeana-Galvan and 31-year-old Raymundo R. Lopez — who were found shot to death Dec. 31, 2012, at 948 Lockbourne Road in the Driving Park neighborhood.

The complaint states Pugh admitted shooting Lopez “multiple times” with a handgun. It does not say who killed Galeana-Galvan, and Pugh has been charged with one count of murder. He was booked into the Franklin County Corrections Center on Sept. 30, with his next court date set for Oct. 9.

Pugh was previously a plaintiff in a 2019 federal lawsuit filed with three other men incarcerated at the Southern Ohio Correctional Facility in Scioto County, alleging two correctional officers stood by while the four were stabbed by another inmate. That suit was settled in 2024.
