With Election Day approaching, three candidates are making their final pitches to voters in Ohio’s 13th Congressional District, a northeast Ohio seat redrawn last year into more competitive territory.
Incumbent Democrat Emilia Sykes faces Republican challenger Carey Coleman and independent contender Sandeep Dixit. The district, redrawn in 2025, now favors Democrats by a 3 to 4 point margin, a shift that prompted Republican Kevin Coughlin to withdraw and opened the door for Coleman to secure the GOP nomination in the primary.
The district covers all of Summit County, a swath of northwestern Stark County and the Kent area of western Portage County. Sykes is campaigning on her record in Washington, while Coleman is pitching change to voters frustrated with the direction of the country. Dixit is running as an independent alternative.
The Beacon Journal interviewed all three candidates about the race, their priorities and their vision for the district as campaigns enter the final stretch.
The outcome in the 13th District could be one of the closest-watched House races in Ohio this November, with control of Congress potentially hanging on a handful of seats like it.
