PUT-IN-BAY — Children of all abilities will soon have a place to play together in Put-in-Bay, where the local Kiwanis Club is raising money to build an all-inclusive playground for the island village.

The Kiwanis Club of Put-in-Bay has opened a dedicated fund through the Ottawa County Community Foundation to collect tax-deductible donations for the project. The playground is being designed to welcome every child, including children who use wheelchairs and others who are often left on the sidelines of standard playground equipment.

The Island General Store has pledged to match donations up to $2,500 through the end of 2026, giving island residents and visitors a chance to double the impact of their gifts during the campaign’s first phase.

Kiwanis is a global volunteer organization dedicated to improving the lives of children one community at a time, and local chapters are known for hands-on projects in the towns they serve. An accessible playground in the heart of Put-in-Bay would serve island families year-round as well as the many families who visit the Lake Erie islands each season.

Donations to the playground fund can be made through the Ottawa County Community Foundation. Club members say every gift, matched or not, moves the village closer to a play space where no child has to watch from the edge.
