TOLEDO — Children in northwest Ohio no longer have to travel far for specialized sleep care. ProMedica Russell J. Ebeid Children’s Hospital has opened a pediatric sleep center in Toledo, the first facility of its kind dedicated specifically to children and adolescents in the region.
The center provides specialized sleep medicine services closer to home, according to a community announcement. It is designed to diagnose and evaluate sleep disorders in children through overnight sleep studies conducted in a child-friendly setting.
During sleep studies, credentialed professionals monitor multiple body systems — including brain activity, heart function and breathing patterns. The information gathered helps physicians evaluate a child’s sleep health and identify potential disorders that can affect growth, behavior and school performance.
The center includes private rooms intended to reduce disruptions so children can sleep as naturally as possible while being monitored, a key difference from adult-focused sleep labs that can feel clinical and intimidating to young patients.
Sleep disorders in children often go undiagnosed, and families previously had to seek out specialized testing outside the region. The new center brings that expertise to Toledo, expanding pediatric specialty care options for families across northwest Ohio.
