The Secret Service and Cincinnati Police arrested 26-year-old William DeFoor after he allegedly used a hammer to shatter several windows and vandalized a Secret Service vehicle parked outside Vance’s East Walnut Hills residence, officials said in a joint statement.
No one was injured in the incident. Vance and his family were in Washington, D.C., at the time, according to the vice president’s office.
Police said officers responded to reports of “a disturbance” around 3:30 a.m. Monday. DeFoor was detained at the scene without further incident, authorities said.
The Secret Service said it is conducting a full security review in coordination with local law enforcement. “The safety and security of our protectees is our highest priority,” the agency said in a statement.
DeFoor faces multiple charges, including vandalism and destruction of government property. The investigation remains ongoing.
