False Threat Triggered Response
The incident is alleged to have occurred in the early morning hours around September 9. Court documents state that Carman told authorities he had received a text message claiming his older male neighbor, who lives in a Perrysburg subdivision, was holding a gun to his own head. When law enforcement arrived at Carman’s residence, he directed them to his neighbor’s house.
Police made contact with the man at the specified home, who reportedly confirmed that “everything was okay and was surprised by our presence.” The man also suspected the call had originated from Carman’s address, informing officers that “they have been having issues” with him.
Carman had also initially told authorities he heard a woman screaming at the home, a claim police again confirmed was untrue. Furthermore, the neighbor’s residents told law enforcement they had seen Carman on their porch via a security camera around noon on the same day the swatting call was made.
Suspect Admits to Lying
When police later approached Carman about the events, he initially claimed he had deleted the alleged text message. Court documents indicate that Carman eventually confessed that “he had made up the story.”
Carman’s bond has been set at $50,000. His next court date in the case is scheduled for October 30.
