Ohio drivers can now show their support for the Dayton Dragons every time they hit the road.
The Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles has added Dayton Dragons specialty license plates to its lineup, featuring the minor league team’s Dragon-head logo. The plates are available to residents statewide.
State Sen. Willis Blackshear, a Dayton Democrat, introduced the Senate bill authorizing the specialty plates, which moved through the legislature with support from baseball fans across the Miami Valley.
The Dragons, the Single-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds, have been one of minor league baseball’s biggest success stories since arriving in Dayton, routinely leading their classification in attendance and selling out Day Air Ballpark year after year.
Specialty plates have become a popular way for Ohioans to back their favorite teams and causes, with dozens of designs benefiting schools, charities, military organizations and sports franchises. A portion of the fees from specialty plates typically supports the sponsoring organization.
Drivers interested in the Dragons design can order through the BMV’s website or at deputy registrar offices across Ohio.
