Shooting details
Cincinnati police said dispatchers received a 911 call around 1 a.m. for reports of multiple shots fired inside Riverfront Live, a concert venue on Kellogg Avenue along the Ohio River. The shooting happened during a birthday celebration at the club, which had begun around 10 p.m. Saturday, according to social media posts cited by local outlets.
Authorities said nine people suffered gunshot wounds, but none of the injuries are believed to be life-threatening and all of the victims are expected to recover. The victims were transported to University of Cincinnati Medical Center and Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment.
Scene and response
Officers arriving at the scene found chaos as patrons fled the building and spilled into nearby businesses seeking cover. Surveillance footage from the area shows people running from the venue moments after the shots were fired.
Police cordoned off the parking lot and surrounding streets by about 3 a.m. to process evidence and interview witnesses. One firearm was recovered at the scene, investigators said, though they have not specified whether they believe more than one weapon was used.
Suspect and motive
As of Sunday morning, no arrests had been announced and police had not released any description of a suspect. Detectives are still working to determine what led to the gunfire, including whether an altercation inside the club escalated into the shooting.
Interim Police Chief Adam Hennie said the incident appears to be isolated and that there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the wider public, but urged anyone with information or video from inside or outside the venue to come forward.
Community reaction
Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval called the shooting “senseless” and thanked first responders and hospital staff for their work treating the wounded. He said the city would support the police department’s efforts “to deliver justice” and promised to keep residents updated as the investigation unfolds.
Riverfront Live, a 16-and-over venue that regularly hosts concerts and special events, has seen police responses for disturbances in the past, but longtime patrons and nearby musicians said they were stunned by the scale of violence overnight. City officials said they are reviewing security protocols at late-night entertainment venues as detectives continue to piece together what happened inside the club.
