CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Cleveland Guardians broke out the bats Monday night, defeating the St. Louis Cardinals 9-3 at Progressive Field behind home runs from Angel Martínez and Brayan Rocchio.
Martínez launched a three-run homer in the fourth inning to give Cleveland the lead, while Rocchio added a solo shot in the sixth as part of a balanced offensive effort. The Guardians tallied 13 hits, with six players recording multi-hit games.
Starting pitcher Tanner Bibee earned the win, allowing three runs on six hits over six innings and striking out seven. The bullpen combined for three scoreless frames to seal the victory.
The Cardinals took an early 2-0 lead on a Paul Goldschmidt double in the second inning, but Cleveland quickly answered and controlled the tempo the rest of the way.
With the win, the Guardians improved to 8-5 on the season and snapped a two-game losing streak. The teams continue their interleague series Tuesday night, with Logan Allen scheduled to start for Cleveland against St. Louis right-hander Miles Mikolas.
