ARCHBOLD — Archbold’s perfect season rolled on Friday night, Oct. 16, as the Bluestreaks shut out Bryan 42-0 at home in a Northwest Ohio Athletic League matchup in Week 9 of the high school football season.
The Bluestreaks entered the night 8-0 overall and 5-0 in the NWOAL, hosting a Bryan team that arrived at 2-6 and 2-3 in league play. By the end of the evening, the gap between the league’s unbeaten leaders and the Golden Bears was written plainly on the scoreboard: 42 points for Archbold, and none for Bryan.
A shutout of that size is a complete-team result. Archbold’s offense scored six touchdowns’ worth of points against a league opponent, while its defense kept Bryan off the board entirely — the kind of paired performance that has carried the Bluestreaks through nine weeks without a loss.
The win moves Archbold to 9-0 overall and 6-0 in the NWOAL with one week left in the regular season. Just as importantly for the league race, it keeps the Bluestreaks alone in control of the conference heading into the Week 10 finale, with the OHSAA playoffs waiting immediately after.
For Bryan, the loss drops the Golden Bears to 2-7 overall and 2-4 in the league. Bryan’s student broadcast team carried the game live from Bluestreak Stadium for fans back home, but there was little for the visitors to celebrate on a night when Archbold dictated play from start to finish, in every phase of the game, for all four quarters.
Northwest Ohio’s Week 9 slate produced several other lopsided finals involving league contenders, but none matched a 42-0 shutout of a conference rival by the area’s last unbeaten league leader. Archbold has now won every game on its schedule, home and away, with the regular-season finale the only remaining obstacle before the postseason.
Archbold closes the regular season next Friday in Week 10, when a win would complete a perfect 10-0 regular season and send the Bluestreaks into the playoffs as one of northwest Ohio’s hottest teams. Bryan will try to end a difficult season on a better note in its finale the same night.
