DAYTON — The University of Dayton football team turned a neck-and-neck battle into a blowout on Saturday, topping Morehead State 56-28 at Welcome Stadium in front of the home crowd.

The Flyers traded punches with the Eagles through the early going before pulling away for good. With the victory, Dayton moved to 4-1 overall and evened its Patriot Football League conference record at 1-1, keeping the Flyers squarely in the mix as the league race takes shape.

Saturday’s home game was the first of a key stretch for Dayton, which returned to Welcome Stadium after an early-season road swing. The 56-point outburst marked one of the program’s most productive offensive afternoons of the season and gave the Flyers momentum heading into the second half of the campaign.

Morehead State fell short in its bid to keep pace with the Flyers’ attack. Dayton now turns its attention to the next week of preparation with a winning record intact and the home-field edge firmly established at Welcome Stadium.
