CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The playground at Yoctangee Park is getting a full makeover in mid-November, and the new equipment was picked with help from the children who will use it. The city announced that crews will remove the current playground pod and install the replacement in the same window, a plan designed to keep the play area closed for as little time as possible.

The playground swap is the latest chapter in a roughly $35 million overhaul of Yoctangee Park funded through Ohio’s Appalachian Community Grant Program, which channels federal American Rescue Plan Act dollars through the Governor’s Office of Appalachia and the Ohio Department of Development. The project has already delivered a repaved Enderlin Circle, a new multiuse pavilion, renovations to the historic Chillicothe Armory, a rebuilt amphitheater, six new pickleball courts and a resurfaced tennis complex, along with a new roundabout at Mill Street and Yoctangee Parkway.

Visitors should expect the playground site to be inaccessible while crews complete the changeover in mid-November. The city said children living in the area helped select the new equipment, though it did not detail how the selection process was carried out.
