TIFFIN — Ohio investigators seized 93 illegal slot machines from two locations in Tiffin as part of an investigation into illegal gambling in the Seneca County city.
The seizures followed an investigation by the Ohio Casino Control Commission into gaming operations that authorities say were running outside the state’s gambling laws. Illegal machines are often found in storefront parlors that present themselves as internet cafes or gaming lounges, drawing customers with the promise of cash payouts that licensed facilities cannot legally offer without proper state approval.
Ohio law draws a sharp line between licensed casino and racino gaming and the limited skill-based amusement machines allowed in bars and restaurants, which face strict limits on payouts. Investigators periodically target operations that cross that line, shutting down parlors and confiscating equipment.
The Tiffin takedown was one of the larger illegal-gaming seizures in northwest Ohio this year. The investigation remains active, and additional enforcement actions could follow as authorities review evidence gathered from the two locations. NewsForce247 will continue to follow the case as more details become available.
