The National Weather Service has issued Winter Storm Warnings for parts of northwest Ohio, where forecasters expect up to six inches or more of snow by Saturday night. The heaviest accumulations are likely along the western and southern shores of Lake Erie, where cold Arctic air passing over the warmer lake waters is fueling persistent snow bands.
In northeast Ohio, residents continue to dig out from Thursday’s holiday storm while additional snow showers bring fresh accumulations to the region. Cities such as Cleveland, Ashtabula, and Erie County are reporting snow-covered roads and gusty winds that have reduced visibility at times to less than a quarter mile.
State transportation officials are urging caution for anyone traveling this weekend. Crews are working around the clock to plow and treat highways, but blowing snow and rapidly changing conditions are expected to make driving treacherous, particularly on Saturday evening.
Meteorologists warn that the winter weather pattern will not ease soon. Another storm system is forecast to arrive Monday night into Tuesday, potentially bringing a mix of snow and freezing rain to much of northern and central Ohio. Travelers returning home after the Thanksgiving holiday are encouraged to monitor weather alerts and prepare for possible delays well into next week.
