TOLEDO — Registration for Christmas assistance through The Salvation Army and the Marines’ Toys for Tots program resumes this week in Toledo, giving Lucas County families a second window to sign up for holiday help.
In-person registration runs Oct. 13 through Oct. 16, from 9 a.m. to noon and again from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. each day, following a first round of sign-ups held Oct. 6 through Oct. 9. Families register at The Salvation Army, 620 N. Erie St. in Toledo.
Only Lucas County residents may apply, and only one application is accepted per household. The program is led locally by Majors JR and Candy Fritsch, executive directors of The Salvation Army of Greater Toledo.
Toys are provided for children from infancy through age 12. Households with children ages 13 to 18 may also apply, and those families receive food assistance in the form of a Kroger gift card instead of toys.
Applicants must bring a government-issued photo ID, a birth certificate for each child age 12 or younger in the household — a printout from Job and Family Services is accepted — and guardian papers where they apply.
Families should also bring proof of every other member of the household and proof of their address. Registration is in person only, and the sign-up window closes Friday, Oct. 16.
