Two dozen high school marching bands take the field Saturday in Toledo. Twenty-four marching bands from Ohio, Michigan and Indiana will perform at the Glass Bowl Stadium as part of the Bands of America Northwest Ohio Regional Championship.

The Saturday event is one of the regional championships staged by Bands of America, the nation’s leading presenter of marching band competitions. Top high school ensembles from across the region will compete for ratings and regional honors on the University of Toledo’s home turf.

The championship arrives at the height of fall marching season, when bands across northwest Ohio polish halftime shows built through weeks of summer and early-fall rehearsal. The Glass Bowl, a longtime landmark of the Toledo music scene, hosts thousands of students and families for the daylong event.

Events like the regional championship draw bands from across state lines, giving students a stage beyond their Friday night football fields. The competition also spotlights the work of student musicians, section leaders and band directors preparing for state and national circuits later in the season.
