TOLEDO — ProMedica Russell J. Ebeid Children’s Hospital has opened a pediatric sleep center in Toledo, the first facility of its kind dedicated specifically to children’s sleep medicine in northwest Ohio.

The center provides specialized sleep medicine services for children and adolescents closer to home, allowing families across the region to avoid traveling long distances for diagnosis and care.

The facility is designed to diagnose and evaluate sleep disorders in children through overnight sleep studies conducted in a child-friendly setting. During the studies, credentialed professionals monitor multiple body systems, including brain activity, heart function and breathing patterns.

The information gathered helps physicians evaluate a child’s sleep health and identify potential disorders, from sleep apnea to chronic insomnia, that can affect growth, learning and behavior.

The center includes private rooms intended to reduce disruptions and help children sleep as naturally as possible while being monitored, according to a community announcement.

Sleep disorders affect a significant share of children nationwide, and specialists say early diagnosis can make a major difference in school performance and overall health. The new center gives northwest Ohio families a dedicated local option for the first time.
