The Union County Sheriff’s Office, along with the Northwestern Fire Department and Allen Township, responded to the scene. Firefighters forced entry into the smoke-filled trailer and successfully extinguished the blaze. Fortunately, no one was inside at the time, and there were no reported injuries.
Investigators found the fire was intentionally set, leading to the arrest of Harrington, who was later charged with aggravated arson and insurance fraud. Harrington gave conflicting accounts about the origin of the fire to investigators, first denying and later admitting she was at the trailer. She told investigators the fire began accidentally. Harrington has a history of conflict with the property’s occupant – a family member.
Several key pieces of evidence connected her to the crime during the investigation. Harrington and another relative filed an insurance claim for the loss of the trailer, leading to a charge of insurance fraud.
This arson was solved by the collaborative efforts of local fire and law enforcement personnel, including Marysville Fire Department Fire Marshal Keith Watson so that justice could be served.
A second suspect was found not competent to stand trial and was unlikely to be restored to competency. That case was dismissed by the court.
