The Los Angeles 2028 Organizing Committee confirmed that Scott’s Miracle-Gro Field — home to Major League Soccer’s Columbus Crew — will serve as one of several U.S. stadiums hosting preliminary-round men’s and women’s soccer matches.
City and state officials celebrated the announcement, calling it a historic moment for central Ohio’s sports scene and a boost to the region’s economy. Gov. Mike DeWine said in a statement that the selection “cements Ohio’s reputation as a world-class destination for major sporting events.”
The 20,000-seat Lower.com Field was renamed Scott’s Miracle-Gro Field earlier this year under a new sponsorship agreement. The stadium’s downtown location and modern design made it an attractive choice for Olympic organizers aiming to highlight American soccer venues.
Mayor Andrew Ginther said Columbus’s selection underscores the city’s growing global profile. “We’re thrilled to welcome athletes and fans from around the world,” Ginther said. “This event will showcase the energy and hospitality that make Columbus one of the fastest-growing cities in America.”
The Olympic soccer tournament traditionally begins before the Games’ opening ceremony. Specific match dates and participating teams for Columbus will be announced closer to 2028.
