The Ohio State Medical Board announced the suspension on Tuesday, citing “serious concerns regarding patient safety and professional misconduct.” According to the board’s report, the doctor is accused of administering an abortion-inducing drug during a clinical visit without informing the patient of its purpose or obtaining her consent.
The patient reportedly sought medical attention after experiencing unexpected symptoms, prompting an investigation that led to the discovery of the medication’s administration. Investigators said lab tests and medical records corroborated the patient’s account.
In a statement, the board emphasized that such actions, if proven, represent a severe breach of medical ethics and state law. “The Board will not tolerate any conduct that endangers patients or violates their autonomy and trust,” the statement read.
The suspended physician, whose identity is being withheld pending a formal hearing, has denied wrongdoing through his attorney. The attorney argued that the allegations are based on misunderstandings and incomplete evidence, and expressed confidence that the doctor’s license will be reinstated after due process.
The case has drawn attention from both medical and legal communities, with advocates stressing the importance of informed consent and medical transparency. The Ohio Attorney General’s Office confirmed it is reviewing the case to determine whether criminal charges are warranted.
The medical board has scheduled a disciplinary hearing next month to decide whether the doctor’s license should be permanently revoked.
