The Art of the “Micro-Break”
We often think of self-care as a weekend spa retreat or a long hike through one of our beautiful Metro Parks. While those are lovely, the reality of a busy Tuesday usually doesn’t allow for it. Enter the “Micro-Break.”
Research suggests that taking just five minutes to step away from a screen or a stressful task can lower cortisol levels and boost afternoon productivity.
Try this: Next time you’re waiting for the coffee to brew or sitting in the school pickup line, leave the phone in your purse. Take three deep breaths and simply observe the world around you. It sounds simple, but it’s a powerful way to reset your nervous system.
Local Spotlight: Thrifting for a Cause
One of the best ways to refresh your wardrobe (or your home) while supporting the community is by visiting our local non-profit boutiques. This month, we are highlighting the hidden gems found in community-run thrift stores. Not only are you scoring a vintage find for your next social event, but your dollars often go directly back into local food pantries and literacy programs.
Quick Kitchen: The 20-Minute Sheet Pan Supper
When the evening gets hijacked by late meetings or sports practices, don’t head for the drive-thru just yet.
The “Everything” Sheet Pan Bake:
1. Toss sliced kielbasa, bell peppers, onions, and broccoli in olive oil and your favorite seasoning.
2. Spread them out on a large baking sheet.
3. Roast at 400°F (200°C) for 15–20 minutes.
It’s healthy, hearty, and—most importantly—only requires one pan to wash.
