The problem stems from a manufacturing defect at a supplier’s factory in Italy. During production, a protective fence that separates unfinished wheels from completed ones was inadvertently moved, leading to some unfinished wheels being shipped without undergoing the proper press-fitting and final inspection process. Specifically, steel lug seat inserts in the aluminum accessory wheels may not have been properly installed into the nut seating surface. This defect can cause the lug nut seating surface to deform during normal vehicle operation, which increases the risk that the lug nuts will loosen and the wheels could detach.
Honda warns that a wheel detaching while the vehicle is in motion can cause loss of control, increasing the risk of a crash or injury. Despite this serious risk, as of the recall announcement, Honda has not received any confirmed reports of accidents or injuries linked to this issue.
Owners of the affected vehicles will be contacted by Honda starting December 8, 2025. They will be urged to take their cars to authorized Honda dealers, where technicians will inspect the wheels and replace hubs and wheels as needed, all at no cost to the vehicle owner. Honda estimates that only a very small percentage of the recalled vehicles will actually require wheel replacements, but all owners are being advised to schedule inspections promptly.
This recall is the latest in a series of major safety recalls for Honda in 2025, including earlier recalls for brake pedal defects and fuel system issues. The automaker has stated it is conducting a broad review of its supplier quality controls to prevent similar issues in the future.
