EUCLID, Ohio — Federal authorities are asking for the public’s help identifying a suspect who robbed a Fifth Third Bank branch on Lakeshore Boulevard in Euclid on Tuesday, claiming to have an explosive device that was later determined to be a hoax.
According to the FBI’s Cleveland Division, the suspect entered the bank shortly after noon, handed a note demanding money, and indicated he possessed an explosive hidden inside a shoebox. Bank employees complied with his demands, and the suspect fled with an undisclosed amount of cash before law enforcement arrived.
Euclid police and the FBI responded to the scene, evacuating the area while the department’s bomb squad examined the shoebox. Investigators later confirmed the device was not real.
No injuries were reported, and authorities said the suspect remains at large. Surveillance images show a man wearing dark clothing and a face covering, but investigators have not released additional details about his identity.
The FBI is urging anyone with information about the robbery to contact its Cleveland office at (216) 522‑1400 or submit tips online at tips.fbi.gov.
