A convicted felon will spend the rest of his life behind bars after attacking an elderly woman in her Columbus home last year.
Miguel Rodriguez-Rolon, 29, was sentenced Monday to between 84 and 89½ years in prison after being convicted in March of two counts of rape, along with one count each of kidnapping and aggravated burglary.
According to court documents obtained by WBNS, the victim, an 87-year-old woman, had fallen asleep on her couch in January 2025 and awoke to find a stranger dressed in all black and wearing a ski mask standing over her. Prosecutors said Rodriguez-Rolon raped her, stole her car, and left her bound on the kitchen floor. It took her about three hours to free herself and call for help.
Investigators later determined that Rodriguez-Rolon lived less than 500 feet from the victim’s home, though the two did not know each other.
Before imposing the sentence, Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Chris Brown said the brutality of the crime left him stunned.
“It is completely evil to rape an 87-year-old woman. This is the nightmare every woman fears. I cannot think of a worse set of facts,” Brown said in court. “You’re the reason we build prisons in this country.”
