Colerain High School will be closed Monday, Oct. 12, to give students and staff time to mourn the death of dean of students Jeff Woltz, the school announced Sunday. Woltz died following a heart attack, according to a Facebook post from the school.

Woltz had been a member of the Colerain High School community since 2008, the school said. He started as a physical education and health teacher, served as an assistant football coach, and rose to dean of students. He also served as the school’s KISR liaison, supporting students in foster care through the district’s kinship and intervention services.

His most recent sports role was as the varsity football offensive line coach for St. Xavier High School, according to that school’s website. “Throughout his time at Colerain, Mr. Woltz dedicated himself to supporting students, building relationships, and positively impacting the lives of everyone around him,” the school’s post said. “His loss will be deeply felt by our students, staff, families, and the entire Colerain community.”

While the school is closed Monday, counseling services for students and staff will be available at Colerain High School between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. The school encouraged families to talk with their children about the loss and to reach out if a child needs additional support.
