Meteorologists are warning of a “major weekend alert” as a significant winter storm is expected to sweep through the region starting Saturday. Snow will begin around midday in southern counties and spread north through the afternoon and evening. Forecasts indicate 2–5 inches of accumulation in central Ohio and 1–4 inches across the northern counties by late Saturday night. Officials are advising drivers to prepare for hazardous travel as road conditions are expected to deteriorate rapidly once snow begins.
By Sunday, the attention shifts from snow to temperatures. A blast of Arctic air will plunge across the state, driving daytime highs down to just 10–19 °F. Wind chills could drop to -10 °F in parts of Northeast Ohio, creating dangerously cold conditions for anyone outdoors. In addition, lake-effect snow bands may form downwind of Lake Erie, bringing additional localized accumulation.
Forecasters urge residents to prepare now for bitter cold and difficult travel this weekend. Extra layers, emergency car kits, and limited time outside are recommended until conditions improve.
