Officer Jon Campbell has been awarded the Medal of Merit for his heroic response to an emergency on October 12, 2025. According to the Chillicothe Police Department, Campbell arrived at the scene to find a baby struggling to breathe. Acting swiftly and calmly, he cleared the child’s airway and prevented what could have been a devastating outcome.
“Officer Campbell’s decisive actions and unwavering commitment to preserving life exemplify the highest standards of professionalism, courage, and service upheld by the Chillicothe Police Department,” the department said in a statement.
The infant, Josephine, has since made a full recovery. She and her family attended the award ceremony, where gratitude and emotion filled the room as they thanked the officer who saved her life.
The department commended Officer Campbell for his outstanding service and continued dedication to the safety and well-being of the Chillicothe community.
