LOGAN — The Ohio Department of Transportation’s District 10 is inviting the public to an open house meeting on a project aimed at improving safety along U.S. 33 in Hocking County. The meeting is set for Tuesday, Nov. 10, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Chieftain Elementary School, 28296 Chieftain Drive in Logan, with identical 15-minute presentations scheduled for 5:05 and 6:05 p.m.
The project’s primary goal is to reduce the frequency and severity of crashes along the four-lane divided highway between the Fairfield-Hocking County line and Chieftain Drive (state Route 180). Proposed improvements include converting the section to a limited-access highway, removing all existing U.S. 33 intersections, building nearly seven miles of new access roads on both sides of the highway, a new interchange at Rockbridge, changes to the state Route 180 interchange, new local travel patterns, pedestrian improvements, relocation of Buck Run, and stormwater and drainage upgrades. The project is currently in the preliminary design stage.
Attendees will be called to the front of the room for the two presentations, with seating available by request. Information boards will be displayed throughout the open house, and ODOT staff along with consulting firm representatives will be stationed around the room to answer questions. There will be no open-microphone question session following the presentations.
Public input gathered at this stage can still shape the project before final design plans are completed. ODOT District 10 covers southeastern Ohio, where U.S. 33 serves as a major corridor through the Hocking Hills region.
