Whitthorne was wanted by Akron police on charges of murder, felonious assault, and having weapons while under disability. These charges stem from the September 25 shooting of 27-year-old Razeil Robinson in the 1000 block of Rosemary Boulevard. Akron officers had responded to a report of “unknown trouble” and found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds.

A warrant for Whitthorne’s arrest was issued on October 6. The investigation led authorities to the Garfield Heights home, where he was apprehended.

Officers also recovered a firearm during the arrest.

U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott emphasized the importance of the arrest, stating, “Not only is another murder suspect taken off the streets and out of the community, but a firearm that can continue to do harm to innocent community members is also safe in police custody.”
