A Cincinnati woman’s decades-long search for justice takes center stage on national television Friday night. A new episode of “Dateline NBC” revisits the brutal 1989 sexual assault of Dana Beatty at her Columbia Tusculum condominium, premiering at 9 p.m. Oct. 2.
The case went unsolved for 35 years until DNA evidence and the persistence of Beatty’s daughter, Andra, helped investigators identify former physician Frederick Tanzer as the attacker. Correspondent Blayne Alexander interviews Beatty, her daughter and Tanzer in the episode.
Federal prosecutors, Cincinnati police and the FBI worked together to hold Tanzer accountable for the hours-long assault that Beatty says changed her life forever. The breakthrough came after Andra Beatty pushed investigators to take another look at the cold case, first reported extensively by The Enquirer.
The episode airs as cold-case DNA testing continues to solve crimes that stumped investigators for decades. For Beatty, the national broadcast marks another step in a search for answers that began the night she was attacked in 1989.
