Ohio University and Habitat for Humanity of Southeast Ohio are teaming up on a yearlong project to build a home for a Chillicothe family.
The effort, called the Bobcat Build, will bring students, faculty, staff and community volunteers together on Ohio University’s Athens campus, where they will construct a Habitat home at the former patient drop-off circle outside Parks Hall on West Green. When finished, the completed structure will be moved to Chillicothe for its future owner. The project is coordinated by the university’s Center for Community Impact and the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Service.
“At Ohio University, we believe our greatest impact comes through partnership,” said OU President Lori Stewart Gonzalez. “The Bobcat Build is a powerful example of the Engage pillar of our Dynamic Strategy in action, bringing together the talents, expertise and commitment of our University and community partners to address one of our region’s most pressing needs.”
Organizers say the initiative is designed to confront affordable-housing challenges in the region while giving students hands-on service and learning opportunities alongside neighbors.
