DELAWARE COUNTY — A Delaware County jury has found truck driver Modou Ngom guilty in the fiery April 11 crash on Interstate 71 that killed a young Delaware County couple and their one-year-old son.

The jury deliberated about two hours before convicting the 51-year-old Ngom of three counts of aggravated vehicular homicide and five counts of vehicular assault, according to NBC4. He will be sentenced on Oct. 29.

Prosecutors said Ngom plowed his tractor-trailer into traffic backed up in the northbound lanes of I-71 near the U.S. 36 and State Route 37 interchange, triggering a nine-vehicle chain reaction. The vehicle carrying Dr. Lynnea Soposki, 36, her husband Luke, 37, and their son Logan caught fire; all three died. Dr. Soposki was a veterinarian at the Muirfield Animal Hospital in Dublin, and the family lived in Ashley. Three other people were injured.

The crash happened in a construction zone tied to ODOT’s interchange improvement project, where the northbound ramp to U.S. 36 and SR 37 had been narrowed to one lane just days earlier. Relatives of the Soposki family and one of the injured women have filed wrongful death lawsuits against Ngom.
