COLUMBUS — Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy is publicly signaling his intent to run for governor of Ohio, posting on X on Monday, Sept. 28, that he is “looking forward to the job” and pitching a platform of safer streets, better education, and a more affordable life.
Ramaswamy, who was born and raised in Cincinnati, laid out a tight three-point agenda in the post: safer streets, better schools, and lower costs for families. The platform mirrors themes from his 2024 Republican presidential campaign — school choice, law and order, and reining in the cost of government — now refocused on the state level.
Ohio’s governorship is wide open in 2026 because term limits bar two-term incumbent Gov. Mike DeWine from seeking re-election. Ramaswamy faces Democratic nominee Dr. Amy Acton in what is shaping up to be one of the most closely watched governor’s races in the country.
Ramaswamy built a national profile during his 2024 presidential bid and spent two months in the Trump administration’s Department of Government Efficiency. A governor’s office would give him something a campaign trail could not: an actual budget, a cabinet, and the power to sign bills into law.
