JACKSON — The Ohio Power Siting Board has changed the location of an upcoming public hearing on a proposed high-voltage transmission line that would cross parts of Pike, Jackson, and Gallia counties.
The hearing is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Oct. 27 at the Jackson Middle School Auditorium, 21 Tropic St. in Jackson, according to a community announcement. It had previously been planned for Jackson High School.
The hearing concerns an application from AEP Ohio Transmission Company to build the Baku-Gavin Transmission Line, a proposed 765-kilovolt electric transmission project stretching about 51 miles between a planned Baku Substation and the existing Gavin Substation. The proposed route would pass through Marion, Union, and Scioto townships and the community of Stockdale in Pike County; Bloomfield, Franklin, and Scioto townships in Jackson County; and Cheshire, Huntington, and Morgan townships and the village of Vinton in Gallia County.
According to the announcement, the project is intended to serve a planned data center campus in Piketon. The data center developer has committed to paying for the transmission investments needed to serve the site, a move intended to help avoid electric transmission rate increases for Ohio ratepayers.
