COLUMBUS — Ohio’s golden stretch of late-September weather is going to keep going. After a soggy month that dumped nearly triple the usual rainfall on parts of the state, forecasters say sunshine and dry conditions will dominate right through Tuesday — with the first real chance of rain not arriving until midweek.

According to the National Weather Service, most of Ohio will see sunny to mostly sunny skies through Tuesday, with afternoon highs near 70 degrees gradually warming into the low 70s. Overnight lows will be crisp and cool, dipping into the upper 40s and low 50s under clear skies.

The break in the wet pattern gives Ohioans an extended window of autumn weather just in time for the weekend’s festivals, football games, and outdoor events. Humidity will stay comfortable, and winds remain light out of the north and northeast.

But the dry spell won’t last forever. Forecasters say a pattern change arrives Wednesday, when the first meaningful chance of rain in days moves into the state. Rain chances rise to around 30 percent Wednesday, climbing to 40 percent Thursday and 50 percent Friday, with highs pushing into the mid-70s under mostly cloudy skies.

The midweek system would be the first precipitation of note since the heavy September rains ended, a welcome development for farmers trying to finish fieldwork but a spoiler for anyone planning late-week outdoor activities.

For now, though, the advice from forecasters is simple: get outside and enjoy it. The sunshine, the crisp air, and the autumn color spreading across the state make for about as good a late-September week as Ohio gets.
