COLUMBUS — After a September that dumped nearly triple the usual rainfall on parts of Ohio, the Buckeye State is getting a reward: a sunny, mild late-September weekend with highs in the upper 60s to mid-70s statewide.

In Columbus, expect sunshine today with a high of 75 and a low of 48, according to the Weather Channel. Sunday brings partly cloudy skies, a high near 75 and just a 20 percent chance of rain. Humidity stays comfortable in the low-to-mid 60s, and tonight’s full moon will light up clear skies across the state.

Northern Ohio looks equally pleasant. Saturday is sunny with highs around 68 and lows near 57, while Sunday climbs to about 70 under sunny skies. Light northerly winds at 5 to 10 mph will keep conditions calm — ideal weather for Saturday’s football slate, from Ohio Stadium at noon to the Glass Bowl and Nippert Stadium later in the day.

The dry stretch is welcome after last weekend’s storms, when flash flooding shattered a basement window in a Dayton home as some areas saw up to 6 inches of rain in hours. No such drama is in the forecast this weekend.

The pleasant pattern holds through the work week before rain chances return. Showers are possible next Friday, Oct. 2, with highs near 68 — so Ohioans may want to soak up this weekend’s sunshine while it lasts.

Sunrise today is 7:23 a.m. and sunset is 7:22 p.m. — daylight is shrinking fast, with less than 12 hours between the two by Sunday.
