Incident Details

Gregory Long Jr., 42, faced charges stemming from multiple alleged thefts at Walmart stores in Toledo and Holland during the summer of 2025. Surveillance footage captured him bagging items like cheese, cinnamon sticks, razor blades, and candy without scanning or paying, including one instance where he wore a Toledo Police Department T-shirt with a badge logo. Walmart loss prevention notified authorities after recognizing him as a known local officer, leading to his ban from all Walmart and Sam’s Club properties.

Long was initially charged with petty theft in August 2025, with cases heard in Sylvania Municipal Court. By December 2025, he pleaded to a reduced charge of unauthorized use of property, a fourth-degree misdemeanor carrying potential fines up to $250 and up to 30 days in jail. The conviction prompted Toledo Police Internal Affairs to investigate his conduct.
