Authorities say the incident began shortly after noon, when security personnel noticed that a temporary worker—who was reportedly in the process of being terminated—had a weapon. Meta’s onsite security team alerted local law enforcement and immediately initiated safety protocols, prompting a full evacuation of the facility.
New Albany police responded within minutes and detained the individual without incident. No injuries were reported, and officials say no shots were fired. The suspect’s name has not been released pending formal charges.
In a statement, a Meta spokesperson confirmed the evacuation and praised staff and security for their quick response. “Out of an abundance of caution, we evacuated all personnel to ensure everyone’s safety,” the statement read. “We are cooperating closely with law enforcement as they continue their investigation.”
By mid-afternoon, police had secured the area, and employees were advised to remain off-site until further notice. Law enforcement officials are reviewing security footage and conducting interviews with witnesses to determine the full circumstances surrounding the event.
The New Albany data center is one of Meta’s key computing hubs, supporting the company’s global operations. Construction and expansion work at the site has drawn thousands of employees and contractors in recent years, making safety and security a top concern.
No timeline has been released for when operations will resume.
