Welcome Home Ohio Program in Fostoria
The program focuses on revitalizing communities by offering new, reasonably priced homes. In Fostoria, five brand-new homes are being developed on Walnut Street, purchased with grant funds, and priced at no more than $180,000 each for income-qualified buyers. To qualify, applicants must meet income thresholds, commit to living in the home as their primary residence for at least five years, and agree not to rent out the property. The homes will remain affordable for at least 20 years through deed restrictions, providing long-term housing stability.
Community and Economic Impact
Fostoria Mayor Don Mennel emphasized the broader significance of the project, stating that building affordable homes strengthens families, supports local businesses, and fosters a brighter community future. The initiative addresses critical housing shortages highlighted by recent studies and supports local economic growth by expanding workforce housing. The construction phase began in 2025 with completion expected by the end of 2026.
Program Administration and Application
The Seneca County Land Bank is overseeing the project, with application packets available at the Fostoria Learning Center and online. Interested buyers must submit their applications by November 14, 2025, to participate in the homebuying process and be considered in the formal offer phase. This program represents an important part of Ohio’s recent statewide effort, funded by the Ohio Department of Development, to increase affordable housing options through grants and tax credits.
This collaborative approach between local government and economic development organizations aims to improve quality of life and keep more residents rooted in the Fostoria community through new homeownership opportunities.
