DELAWARE, Ohio — A Delaware County man faces life in prison with parole eligibility after nearly 40 years for gunning down his parents in their home in September 2023.

Mohamed Lamin Kandeh received the sentence Monday following his December conviction on four counts of murder—each with mandatory three-year firearm specifications—and one count of tampering with evidence. The bench trial ruling came after prosecutors detailed a history of threats and violence by the then-25-year-old against Mohamed Alusine Kandeh, 61, and Bintu Kandeh, 60.

Incident Unfolds on Bristol Drive

Police responded to the family’s Bristol Drive residence around 3 p.m. on Sept. 3, 2023, after the victims missed a lunch meeting with their daughter, Zainab Kandeh. Zainab, fearing for their safety due to her brother’s past behavior, arrived armed with a kitchen knife and box cutter; she found her parents dead from gunshot wounds in the kitchen and called 911.

Security footage captured Mohamed Lamin Kandeh leaving and re-entering the home late Saturday into early Sunday, with his car gone by 3:45 a.m. An arrest warrant led to his capture without incident around 11 a.m. Monday in northern Delaware County, aided by Ohio State Highway Patrol and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation.

History of Family Threats

Zainab Kandeh told investigators her brother had long exhibited paranoid and delusional tendencies, including a fixation on firearms. In November 2022, he faced aggravated menacing charges—later reduced to disorderly conduct via plea—for allegedly holding a gun to his father’s head while smiling.

Earlier, in 2020, Kandeh served time after punching his ex-girlfriend’s father. The crime scene showed a security bar on the parents’ bedroom door and an unopened box cutter on Bintu Kandeh, suggesting they anticipated danger.
