Alicia Hughes, an employee of the Randolph Eastern School Corporation, was taken into custody following an investigation by the Union City Police Department. Officers began looking into the case after an overnight incident in which Hughes’ husband allegedly discovered her with an 18-year-old student and confronted the pair, police said. Hughes was reportedly battered during that altercation, which remains under investigation by the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department.
As the investigation continued, detectives said they found evidence that Hughes had engaged in sexual activity with a different student who was 17 at the time. Investigators allege the relationship included at least five instances of sexual intercourse between Hughes and the minor.
Hughes was arrested and charged with five counts of child seduction. She is being held at the Randolph County Jail on a $25,000 cash-only bond.
In a statement, the Union City Police Department thanked the Randolph Eastern School Corporation for its cooperation during the investigation and its efforts to protect students.
The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with information is asked to contact the Union City Police Department.
