The “Best Citizen” award is granted to individuals who demonstrate extraordinary commitment to the betterment of Marion. This year, the selection committee found Walker’s impact to be singular. By championing the principles of fiscal resilience, incremental growth, and community-led development, Walker didn’t just advocate for a better Marion—he proved to the nation that Marion is a model for urban renewal.
“James Walker represents the very best of us,” said a spokesperson for The Best of Marion. “His work with the Strong Towns movement wasn’t just about a title; it was about changing the trajectory of our city. Because of his leadership, Marion is being recognized nationally as a resilient, thriving place to live and do business.”
Under Walker’s guidance, Marion successfully navigated the rigorous Strongest Town competition, showcasing the city’s ability to build wealth from within and adapt to the needs of its residents. His efforts have spurred renewed interest in downtown revitalization and public-private partnerships that will benefit the community for generations.
James Walker will be formally honored at the Best of Marion Award Stream held on February 15th at 8:00 PM on The Best of Marion Facebook Page. Members of the community are invited to attend and celebrate the man whose vision helped put Marion back on the map.
