The confrontation began around 2:05 a.m. in the 1700 block of County Road 24 when deputies from the Morrow County Sheriff’s Office responded to reports of a domestic dispute involving the suspect and his parents. When officers arrived, the young man barricaded himself inside the residence and opened fire on responding deputies, authorities said.
Throughout the morning and afternoon, law enforcement negotiated with the suspect as he reportedly used a rifle to keep officers at a distance. The Delaware County Tactical Unit was called in to assist, bringing specialized negotiators and additional tactical resources to the scene.
Authorities established a perimeter and urged nearby residents to remain indoors as the standoff continued. Despite multiple rounds being fired over the course of the day, no injuries were reported among officers, the suspect, or civilians.
Shortly after 5:00 p.m., negotiators persuaded the suspect to surrender his weapon and exit the home peacefully. He was taken into custody without further resistance, according to the sheriff’s office.
The identity of the man has not yet been released. Officials said charges are pending and will be determined following a review by the Morrow County grand jury.
Sheriff’s investigators remained on scene Friday evening processing evidence and interviewing witnesses. Authorities commended the cooperation between the Morrow and Delaware County agencies for bringing the long standoff to a safe conclusion.
